Royal Caribbean International Offers Naming Contest

Royal Caribbean International is looking for help from the public asking entrants to name the Genesis class ships, set to launch in 2009 and 2010. Submit your ideas for the two ships' names and enter for a chance to win vacation-prizes with Royal Caribbean, including a week-long cruise vacation on one of the world's two largest and most innovative cruise ships. RCI seeks entries "that best describe the world of experiences on a Royal Caribbean cruise, rather than ones that focus solely on the sheer size of the ships. Go to the RCI website to enter.  Captain's Note: Normally we do not announce promotions such as this, however this contest sounds like fun if you're good at this sort of thing.

Carnival Enhances Fun Pass On-line Pre-Cruise Registration System, Further Expediting Embarkation Process

Carnival Cruise Lines has enhanced its “Fun Pass” on-line embarkation portal to allow guests the ability to register for the line’s shipboard credit card system and to electronically accept the Terms and Conditions of Passage prior to their cruise, thus further expediting the embarkation process. Guests sailing with Carnival are now able to submit credit card information for their on-board “Sail & Sign” accounts via a secure encryption method and review/acknowledge the line’s ticket contract, both of which previously had to be completed manually during the check-in process at the cruise terminal.

Sarasota, Fl Resident Drowns While Snorkeling in Antigua

According to a report by the Antigua Sun, a 75-year-old American tourist, James Kilgallon, drowned yesterday while snorkeling at Turner’s Beach, located on the southern side of the island. Mr. Kilgallon was a pasenger aboard the Norwegian Pearl.

Nathan Dundas, president of the Antigua and Barbuda Cruise Tourism Association (A&BCTA) expressed condolences to the family on behalf of the association and conveyed that it was extremely disheartening to have heard of the tragedy. “Sadly, this tragedy happened. But one of the things we try to get the cruise lines and the tourists to understand is that there are safe and unsafe activities to participate in"

It appears the passenger, along with his wife and friends were not on an excursion booked through the cruise line. Instead the four visitors had gone to the beach in a taxi after having disembarked the cruise vessel.  Captain's Note: Read my blog response to this article
