This website is truly a labor of love and needs constant care and attention. The site is ever changing and will continue to grow and change as long as I can move my fingers. How quickly that happens all depends on how fast I can type and create pages for you.

is a family venture that began after a shipboard wedding back in 2004. There
was a group of 17 passengers sailing on the Star Princess for the event, and
planning was tricky for the host (the Editor).
Many of the group members were had never cruised before so the host decided to put together a companion "guide" that could help make the first days of cruising stress free. The guide included packing information, embarkation tips, duty free shopping info, port information, deck plans, etc....
Then again in 2005, a 14-day cruise to the Southern Caribbean (visiting 10 ports of call) had the Editor at the computer almost on a daily basis. Stacks of cruise travel information began to accumulate along with years of cruise memories and memorabilia stored away in closets. Shipdetective.com was created to organize and share the mountains of research and knowledge the family had accumulated since the 1980's.
Established on the world wide web, Jan 12, 2006, Shipdetective.com posts
information specific to the needs of cruise passengers. We offer sensible
advice & commentary in addition to the best news & resources we
find.
Our simple objective is to provide a free, user-friendly, no-frills experience for our visitors. We designed a website that is easy to navigate, free from annoying pop-up ads, and highlight information you really want - without membership or sign-up requirements.
Our Home Port is Venice, Florida; a city located on the Southern Gulf Coast in Sarasota County, Florida.
