Celebrity Cruise Line Orders Two New Ships

posted December 4, 2014

The two 2,900-guest, 117,000-gross-registered-ton ships, developed under the project name EDGE will build upon the modern luxury experience of the brand’s Millennium and Solstice class vessels. At 984 feet long, 123 feet wide and 190 feet high, Project EDGE will deliver small ship itineraries with large ship amenities. "Our new class of ship will set the standard for premium world travel and deliver the next generation of modern luxury experiences that our guests know and love,” said Michael Bayley, president and chief executive officer of Celebrity Cruises. Delivery of the first ship is expected in Fall 2018, with the second vessel delivered in the early part of 2020.

Luminae for Suite Passengers

posted January 20, 2014

Inspired by the essence of light, exceptional food, wine and luxury – Celebrity Cruises has revealed the first look into newly named “Suite Class” restaurant, “Luminae.”  Luminae will be introduced onboard Celebrity’s modern luxury ships beginning in April.

Guests dining at the brand's first suite restaurant will enjoy warm hospitality, impeccable Celebrity service, and eclectic, one-of-a-kind menus that are only available in Luminae.

Celebrity's dedicated team of chefs has created the new elegant menus for the venue’s complimentary breakfast, lunch and dinner - each menu item will only be featured once during a two-week cruise vacation. With handcrafted dishes that are made from scratch, the unique menus will also feature locally sourced regional and seasonal ingredients inspired by the destinations Celebrity sails to among the world’s seven continents.

With special touches like tableside preparation of signature dishes and the daily presentation of a new delectable gourmet chocolates and desserts cart, the menus are complete with pairings made by the restaurant’s dedicated head sommelier. The wine list, specially designed for Luminae guests, will feature more than 400 selections, each from the most notable wine-producing countries in the world.

Celebrity History

Celebrity Cruises was founded in 1989 with the objective of fulfilling the travel industry's need for a high-quality, premium cruise product at an intelligent price. The company was determined to set a new, worldwide standard for cruising, and to create a distinctive expression of superior quality, grand style, attentive service, spacious accommodations, and exceptional cuisine.

Believing that the dining experience is an essential part of a quality cruise vacation, Celebrity custom-built galleys to create the finest gourmet cuisine at sea, preparing everything from scratch, using only the finest, freshest ingredients.

Along with the launch of the Century-class fleet in 1995, Celebrity created another industry first: a luxurious spa experience within the environment of a cruise ship, with the introduction of the AquaSpa® by Elemis.

In 1997, Celebrity Cruises merged with Royal Caribbean International, bringing together two extraordinary cruise brands within one corporation, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. The company today has a combined total of 29 ships in service and one under construction.

In the year 2000, Celebrity launched the appropriately named Celebrity Millennium featuring the industry's first application of gas turbine engines, which reduce exhaust emissions by up to 95 percent over traditional propulsion systems. Celebrity Millennium and her sister ships - Celebrity Infinity, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Constellation - nearly doubled the line's capacity in just two years (2000-2002), with each ship offering guests an unmatched dining experience in distinctive, intimate specialty restaurants. Celebrity Millennium's "Olympic," Celebrity Infinity's "S.S. United States," Celebrity Summit's "Normandie"and Celebrity Constellation's "Ocean Liners"each boast original paneling and artifacts from the famed transatlantic luxury liners after which they are named ("Ocean Liners'"includes paneling from the Ile de France), and feature dramatic tableside cooking, carving and flambé in the true French style.

Royal Celebrity Tours was introduced in 2001, building on the strengths of both the Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises brands, to offer truly unique vacations in Alaska, Canada, and Europe, pairing outstanding cruise experiences with incredible pre- or post-cruise land tour packages now known as "cruisetours."

More than 100 brand enhancements and new "tastes of luxury" were unveiled across the fleet in 2003, including welcome champagne and mimosas, cold towels and fresh sorbet poolside, expanded options in dining, including Sushi Cafes and pasta/pizza bars, sunset yoga and Pilates classes, and more. During the same year, Celebrity introduced "Concierge Class," an enhanced level of accommodations featuring new amenities and priority services, and introduced "Acupuncture at Sea," another undisputed industry first.

Wi-Fi

Most ships in the fleet offer Wi-Fi connectivity throughout, with the exception of Celebrity Century®, Celebrity Xpedition®, and Celebrity Constellation® which offer WiFi in public areas. On all ships, Internet access is available in the Celebrity iLoungeSM 24 hours a day. You will be able to receive email, satellite conditions permitting. An Internet Manager is on board to assist with questions or to set up an Internet Package at a nominal fee.

Celebrity Century®, Celebrity Xpedition®, and Celebrity Constellation® feature Online@CelebritySM, an Internet lounge that provides e-mail services and Internet access 24 hours a day. It also offers DigITal, a program that will help you make the most of computer and smart phone technology through group and individual instruction.
