Annual Venice Shark's Tooth Festival
Weekend spring festival offering music, games, displays, vendors and food. Benefits raised go towards funding community projects and causes. Usually takes place in April or May. Located at Caspersen Beach on the south end of Venice Island near the fishing pier.
Annual Venice Christmas Boat Parade
The
annual parade takes place the first Saturday in December. Parade starts at
7pm. Viewing locations include the North and South Jetties, The Venice Train
Depot, located at 202 E. Venice Ave on the island of Venice.
Annual Venice Holiday Parade
The Holiday Parade, the largest of the city's five annual parades, is normally held the last Saturday of November or first Saturday in December. An average crowd of 45,000 is expected, which would be in line with the crowd that braved rain to sit along Venice Avenue for more than three hours last year. More than 100 groups -- about 2,500 people -- march or ride on floats in the parade, believed to be, depending on who is talking, one of the largest holiday parades in the Southeast and the biggest nighttime parade on Florida's Gulf coast.
The parade may be viewed along West Venice Avenue, between Park Boulevard and Nokomis Avenue, and on Nokomis Avenue, from Venice Avenue to Turin Street. These streets, as well as The Esplanade near West Venice Avenue and other sides streets used for staging floats, will be closed to traffic around 3 p.m. The annual Venice holiday parade takes place the first Saturday after Thanksgiving. Pre-parade entertainment starting at 5 p.m. and the parade at 7 p.m. The event is organized by the Holiday Parade Committee. To participate in the parade call, (941)468-6665.
