Riviera Delivered

Posted April 27, 2012

Oceania Cruises took delivery today of its new 1,250-guest Riviera at Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa.

The newest addition to Oceania Cruises' expanding fleet of mid-sized ships, the 66,172-ton Riviera is purpose-built to engage and inspire epicureans with 10 dining venues. The ship also boasts a Bon Appétit Culinary Center for hands-on learning and La Reserve by Wine Spectator, a professional facility for wine tastings and pairing dinners.

In just 14 days, on May 11 in Barcelona, Riviera will be officially christened, presided over by godmother Cat Cora, a master chef, restaurateur, humanitarian, author, and co-host of Bravo's new "Around the World in 80 Plates."

Riviera's Maiden Voyage Delayed

Posted January 30, 2012

Oceania Cruises was notified by Fincantieri late last week of construction delays and as a result, will reschedule the maiden voyage of its m/s Riviera. Construction on the 1,250-guest ship fell behind schedule when strikes at Fincantieri's shipyard near Genoa, Italy, lasted longer than expected.

The maiden voyage of Riviera has moved from April 24 to May 16, and all guests affected by the delay will be contacted by their travel agents or by Oceania Cruises directly to discuss alternative cruise dates.

Comfortably mid-size, the Riviera retains the same warmth and charm of their acclaimed consorts Regatta, Insignia and Nautica. While the country club casual ambiance and level of personalized service remain the same, they offer even more choice and some enticing new amenities.

As the first ships designed for lovers of fine dining and travel experiences, Riviera offer guests a total of 10 dining venues, of which six are open-seating gourmet restaurants with no surcharge. La Reserve by Wine Spectator offers enlightening wine and food pairings. The new Bon Appétit Culinary Center is the only hands-on cooking school at sea. Similarly, artists-in-residence teach fine arts in Artists Loft, a new enrichment center. For specialty coffees and snacks, there is Baristas Coffee Bar. Intimate lounges abound. Accommodations in every category are incredibly spacious, especially with regard to the lavish bathrooms.

The Riviera is scheduled to debut in April 2012.
