Norwegian Sun
Norwegian Sun entered service in 2001 in a dual christening ceremony at the Port of Miami with the Norwegian Star. She was preceded by Norwegian Sky (entered service in 1999, re-launched as Pride of Aloha in 2004.) NCL defines both the Norwegian Sun and Norwegian Sky as Sky class ships.
The NCL Sun is the first ship designed specifically for freestyle cruising. The ship's dress code is now "resort casual", with one optional formal night.
Norwegian Sun underwent a multi-million dollar refurbishment in January 2011. The ship received extensive renovations focused on enhancing the guest experience.
The Freestyle Cruising ship received enhancements to its public areas, suites and restaurants. Following on the popularity of the Brazilian steakhouse that debuted on Norwegian Epic, the Moderno Churrascaria has been added as a new on-board restaurant. Guests can sample a variety of skewered meats presented by tableside passadors, as well as a salad bar.
Additional updates and enhancements were made to some of the back-of-house areas of the ship to increase efficiencies.
